Nevada is a state that is known for its glitz and glamour, and in our society, it is not uncommon for these things to be have a close correlation with drugs. With the atmosphere known for the multitude of casinos against a desert backdrop, the state is one to be unlike any other. Unfortunately, there have been many people who have fallen victim to the addiction that is gambling, but something just as serious is the state’s drug abuse. Drug abuse in the state of Nevada isn’t exactly secret, yet, over the past few years there have been a sharp increase. This is especially so when it comes to methamphetamine, hands down the state’s biggest problem, even when considering more common substances such as alcohol and marijuana.

When considering alcohol, it’s almost understandable why there are so many people abusing the substance. In terms of casinos in Las Vegas, free drinks are easy to obtain, and many people take advantage of the fact that they can get their hands on alcohol at a moment’s notice. And although the alcohol problem would be considered the most prominent out of all of the drugs available, that title belongs to methamphetamines.

The meth abuse in Nevada surpasses alcohol by a large margin. Normally, a person would consider marijuana and alcohol to be the most abused drugs; this is simply not true for the state of Nevada. Given it’s placement in the United States, Mexican drug traffickers play a large part in the distribution of drugs, essentially creating a similar problem as the western neighbor of the state. Just last year, the DEA seized more than 44 kilograms of methamphetamine from people in the state, a number that is well above national average for drug possession. This number is especially high because the state is known as a transshipment zone for drugs that are coming from Mexico and California, and are distributed to other states from Nevada.

One of the best things for the person who is suffering from the desperation of drug abuse is to consider that they have many options when addressing their problems. In the year 2006, there were more than 10,000 people who decided that they needed to make a change. They entered the treatment centers around the state in an attempt to get their lives back. With more than 70 available for a person to choose from, there is no shortage for people who feel as if they need help. One of the greatest things to consider when dealing with drug addiction and seeking treatment in the state is that more than 60% of these programs receive state funding, which will help the specialist provide better treatment for the addicted.

Another noteworthy point to choosing the best facility to handle drug abuse is making sure that the choice facility is one that has all of the tools needed for the job, specializes in the treatment of the drug, and is also aware of the behavioral problems that are a result of the drug use.
