Question by Deborah: How are women treated in your religion?
I was very interested in this answer from a muslim man called ‘Peace’ which I have copied here:

“In fact, as you know, In Islam we treat women just as a “Pearl in a shell”. A womena in Islam, regardless of her color, nationality, social position, is a “Real Queen”. Yes, women in Islam are Queens. A Muslim women has an “Elite status” that everybody appreciate.

Honestly, we got to help the Women from “other religions” : In other cultures, Women get Rape, Sexual harrasement, drugs, porn trade, ….etc. Women in other religions are, really “Abused”, by very definition.”

I am a non-denominational Christian who campaigned against pornography and I understand where this man is coming from. Muslim men and women campaigned alongside us.

I was married into the Jehovah’s Witnesses and it was pointed out to me that due to the headship arrangement it was up to my husband to decide on what material goes in front of my children – it is a ‘matter of conscience’ for him to decide on. I have also been informed on here that they do consider degrading newspapers as a ‘matter of conscience’. Hence if you are anti-porn, you are practically not very popular with them and have to keep it shut. Also your husband can impose suchlike degrading material on the family if he so choses and can even become an elder. You are seen as the fanatic and you have no rights on the issue. The bible itself in no way condones this. Ephesians 5:3-5:
“Let fornication and uncleanness of every sort or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people; neither shameful conduct nor foolish talking, nor obscene jesting, things which are not becoming, but rather the giving of thanks. For you know this, recognising it for yourselves that no fornicator or unclean person or greedy person – which means being an idolator has any inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and of the God.”

Do women’s rights get pushed under the carpet or become secondary? Is this sometimes happening even because other women are even condoning it?
For proof of what I am talking about, please view the answer from Porcelain Vessel below and then cross reference with the ‘best answer chosen by the community’ regarding my question to Jehovah’s Witnesses ‘What is a Spiritual Babe?’ You will see there that they have counselled me to accept that JW’s are allowed to serve and buy newspapers famous in the UK for containing depraved images of naked women. It is rather a twist as they first go on about how bad it is and then tell me I need counsel to accept that I should go in subjection to elders who may buy suchlike porn’. I am also often bullied by this Porcelain Vessel who even tells me to get ‘counselling’. Should young girls be made aware of the reality at the Kingdom Halls when they see all the lovely scriptures advertised on the Watchtower website? I ended up in a refuge when I got upset at the fact that ‘it is up to the family head to decide on matters of conscience’ and was made to leave the room if I felt degraded. This IS

I have a son age 17 living in my home still and he is active with his girl friend and I just found out he is very addicted to porn and has been sneaking and watching on computer for awhile .I noticed a serious change in him this summer staying in his room not helping etc..I want to bust the computer up.But any advise as to a good block I can install I am not so great knowledge wise with computer work,Thank you for any help I want to block him from that crap.

Question by Jack: Why are the conditions in most mental hospitals awful?
Some are even dangerous e.g. patients can often be at risk from other patients. And I’m not even talking about the ones that use electric shock “treatment”.

My question is how are mental hospitals actually supposed to HELP patients? I would think that feeling unsafe and being around people that scream and bang their heads off walls and stuff would make anyone’s mental problem 10 times worse?

First, they aren’t all like that, but the ones that are, they are usually public funded, where the patients are unwanted by anyone else, so there is no one to complain about the bruises, or the filth, they are just deposited there to die, it really pretty sad, we need better laws that both check up on, and punish these places.
